Qatar es Calor. Mucho calor. Es que se te empañen las gafas se sol y la cámara de fotos al salir del hotel a la calle. Es tener la sensación de caminar por una larga sauna aunque sean las 10 de la noche y no veas la luz del sol. Es tener una sensación térmica de 57º y una humedad de más del 60%.

A pesar de todo esto, merece la pena hacer una visita a Doha. Qatar está ubicado en una peníndula del Golfo Pérsico y lo bueno de hacer escala en este lugar de camino a otro país, es que puedes visitar la cuidad en un tour que organizan desde el aeropuerto de Hamad o aprovechar las ofertas de Qatar Airways y alojarte una noche para verlo por tu cuenta.

Nuestro hotel estaba muy cerquita del Zoco Souq Waqif y aquí, además de muchas tiendas de artesanía local, se pueden encontrar restaurantes de diferentes partes del mundo, además de una gran variedad de postres que preparan en las calles.

En la Old Town, además de visitar el Zoco Souq Waqif, se puede ver el Museo de Arte Islámico de Doha o el Museo Nacional de Qatar, inaugurado en 2019 y obra de Jean Nouvel, que evoca la cristalización de una rosa del desierto en un diseño fascinante y muy fotogénico.

Para ver el skyline de Doha, lo mejor es ir a Corniche. Los atardeceres púrpuras dan paso a los rascacielos de formas y colores que se van iluminando con la caída del sol. Y, aunque las temperaturas siguen siendo altas incluso en la noche, es interesante caminar entre los altos edificios iluminados. El paseo marítimo de Corniche tiene un recorrido de 6km que une la Old Town con el nuevo City Center.

¿Qué otras cosas puedes hacer en Doha? Visitar el monumento de La Perla en Corniche, el completo de edificios de luja en el archipiélago artificial llamado Doha Pearl, y, si las temperaturas lo permiten, puedes hacer una excursión al desierto. Además, la cuidad está creciendo y se está preparando para Copa Mundial de Fútbol de la FIFA 2022.

Como consejo, si es verano, no merece la pena andar de un sitio a otro por muy cerca que parezca: 15 minutos con esas temperaturas ¡se hacen muy duros! Uber funciona muy bien para hacer estos recorridos y para los traslados al aeropuerto, se pueden hacer muy fácilmente en autobús.

Como decía al inicio, Doha es un buen lugar para hacer escala y complementar tu viaje.

Qatar is located on a peninsula in the Persian Gulf and the good thing about stopping here on your way to Indonesia is that you can visit the city on a tour they organize from Hamad airport or take advantage of the offers of Qatar Airways and stay one night to see it on your own.

Our hotel was very close to the Souq Waqif souk and here, in addition to many local handicraft shops, you can find restaurants from different parts of the world, as well as a great variety of desserts that they prepare in the streets.

In the Old Town, besides visiting the Souq Waqif Souk, you can see the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha or the National Museum of Qatar, opened in 2019 and work of Jean Nouvel, which evokes the crystallization of a desert rose in a fascinating and very photogenic design.

To see the Doha skyline, the best thing to do is to go to the Corniche. The purple sunsets give way to skyscrapers of shapes and colors that light up with the sunset. And, although temperatures remain high even at night, it is interesting to walk among the tall illuminated buildings. The Corniche promenade has a 6km route that links the Old Town with the new City Center.

What else can you do in Doha? Visit the La Perla monument in Corniche, the complete of luxury buildings in the artificial archipelago called Doha Pearl, and, if the temperatures allow it, you can make an excursion to the desert. Also, the city is growing and preparing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

As a tip, if it’s summer, it’s not worth walking from one place to another no matter how close it seems: 15 minutes in those temperatures get very hard! Uber works very well for these tours and for airport transfers, they can be done very easily by bus.

As I said at the beginning, Doha is a good place to stop over and complement your trip.
